Sage Green with Pops of Orange Fall Wedding | Kaitlin + Gabe from St. Louis, MO

Kaitlin and Gabe created a beautiful fall wedding day at Emerson Fields. These high school sweethearts are from St. Louis, MO. They dated long distance and then were together throughout college. Kaitlin said, “He proposed during the final walk-through of the first house we bought together which completely caught me off guard!" Kaitlin knew she wanted a wedding venue outside of St. Louis and began searching for a fall wedding venue in Missouri.

An early October wedding invites the perfect in-between weather from the hot and humid summer to the cold and crisp winter. October is the third most popular month of the year to get married, and for good reason!

We asked Kaitlin about why she and Gabe chose a fall wedding day and she said,

“I always envisioned my ceremony and reception happening in two different spaces that way when people came into the reception area it had more of a reveal and a different scenery our guests could enjoy! So having a fall wedding I was able to check those boxes since Emerson Fields had different options for outdoor ceremonies.”

Kaitlin got off work one Tuesday in St. Louis and drove to Emerson Fields with her friend. She had found us on Instagram and was so excited to see the venue in person. We chatted for a while as she toured the venue and she loved it so much that she booked it on the spot!

“We live in the St. Louis City area and at the time I worked for a bridal dress boutique so I had heard the same venues mentioned over and over again which made me want something different. I would go to my favorite wedding planners’ Instagram accounts and go through who each of them followed and stumbled upon Emerson Fields! I could see us getting married there the first time I saw pictures and, fun fact, I only toured Emerson Fields for our venue and was sold even before setting foot inside!” - Kaitlin

Kaitlin put together a rockstar team of vendors to bring her wedding day vision to life. At Emerson Fields, our couples have access to a list of exceptional vendors we have worked with previously. Kaitlin and Gabe relied heavily on our list of vendors since they were from the St. Louis area and wanted vendors that would work well at Emerson Fields.

Kaitlin & Gabe put their personal stamp on every detail of their fall wedding day. From the guest book signage board inspired by The Office, to the sweet treats that were delivered by Sweet Divine of St. Louis, and the ceramic cat cake accents, everyone knew without a doubt that this was the Kording wedding style.

On Friday, Kaitlin and her crew came to Emerson Fields to set up and decorate before the rehearsal dinner. They used the white tablecloths from Emerson Fields for the reception tables with glass, gold-rimmed chargers from A-1 Party and Event Rentals for a touch of simple elegance. Kaitlin printed up menu cards and tucked them into the napkins to add layers to the place setting. Layers always add interest and depth to a wedding day motif.

After Kaitlin and her bridesmaids got ready in the bridal suite at Emerson Fields, Kaitlin made her way outside for a first look with her dad. Kaitlin’s mom watched from inside the venue by the sliding glass doors as Kaitlin made her way out to her dad by the dock. It was a sweet moment of joy as you can tell from both of their smiles!

Next, the bridal party and the groomsmen took some wedding party pictures around 1:15 PM. Kristin Hendricks Photography did a great job shooting this wedding, but we especially love how she captured candid smiles and used lots of natural backdrops for the photos. Jessica with Adorist Events coordinated this fall wedding day and did a great job at keeping the day on schedule while being flexible and friendly.

Non-Traditional Fall Wedding Color Palette

There were 10 people in the wedding party and they all got ready in the dressing suites here at Emerson Fields. The bridesmaid dresses from Show Me Your Mumu were in the color silver sage and they anchored the wedding day color palette. Since it was an early October wedding, Kaitlin wanted to incorporate fall tones as well. The team at MU Tiger Garden knocked it out of the park with the bright pops of orange dahlias, soft orange ranunculus, delicate lamb’s ear, and silver eucalyptus in the bouquets and table centerpieces.

Color was a big way I personalized our day. I picked colors that weren’t seen together often when we were planning our wedding. Being originally a fashion merchandise major I know that color has a great impacted on how you feel. I wanted a fall wedding but traditional fall colors didn’t feel like “us” so I used more spring colors for attire but brought in warmer tones like oranges into my décor and flowers to bring in that depth of fall.

Kaitlin chose a unique and gorgeous bridal gown. It probably helped that she worked in a bridal boutique at the time! Her Galatea gown featured an oversized, Dalia-inspired floral motif with an A-line silhouette. Two rows of Velvet Ribbon wrapped around the waist and tied together in the back. It was a soft and romantic look that added to the overall effect of the fall wedding day.

The wedding ceremony was simple, and elegant and embraced the fall backdrop. White flower petals down the aisle and a small floral arrangement as chair accents added touches of color to the space. We also loved the vignette of the antique table and baskets that greeted guests when they went into the pavilion. Kaitlin made her own signage that coordinated beautifully with the styling. The birch tree arbor was rented from Adorist Events and anchored the altar space perfectly while also serving as a beautiful backdrop.

At 3:00 PM, it was time for the outdoor wedding ceremony in the pavilion. It was a beautiful fall day with cooler weather than the hot September previously. Kaitlin was escorted down the aisle by her father. There were around 70 wedding guests on this intimate wedding day. They exchanged rings and committed their lives to one another. Gabe gave a sweet and funny reading of his vows and had everyone laughing. But he ended it on a lovely note with, “I’ll put you first. I love you and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.”

Guests received tubes of dried lavender to toss in the air as the couple celebrated their first kiss!

After the ceremony, the wedding party snuck away for some photos together and then left Kaitlin and Gabe to get some portraits as newlyweds. Don’t you love the pops of orange against the green grass and blue lake? Perfect fall wedding inspiration!

Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the venue and out on the back patio while the couple wrapped up family photos in the pavilion. The couple rented fun lawn games for wedding guests to enjoy during cocktail hour. Trays of appetizers like cheese, crackers, and veggies were available as well as a signature bar menu featuring their sweet cats.

We loved how they set up the foyer of the venue for their memory table with family photos, their guest book, and fun touches of their style. We especially loved their hand-painted guest book with their portrait (an Etsy find). Using the foyer for these personal touches is a great way to welcome your guests to your reception space and make it feel more homey and unique.

The copper arbor [Pretty Little Things] behind the sweetheart table with hanging greenery and open light bulbs anchored the stage for this sweet head table. Greenery, gold taper candles, and soft suede pink chairs added romantic elements to the sweetheart table.

Pretty Little Things layered in so many vintage bud vases, antique wood boxes, crates and a cozy lounge to the wedding reception space. Anytime you work with Pretty Little Things, your wedding day dreams are elevated. Their whole team knows how to style a wedding better than anyone in the Midwest wedding market!

The amber-colored vintage bottles added warmth and a touch of fall to the centerpieces that Pretty Little Things and Kaitlin designed. The single bloom vases were the perfect splash of fall color.

Kaitlin created the personalized name wooden hoops with greenery behind the cake table. They used one of our Emerson Fields farmhouse tables for the dessert bar and Pretty Little Things added antique crates and vintage bottles with blooms to add more of Kaitlin’s style to the dessert spread. Don’t you just love their little ceramic cats on the wedding cake? They also chose select cupcakes from Sweet Divine in St. Louis, like smores, for an even more personalized touch.

Gabe, Kaitlin, and their friends and family celebrated with toasts, special dances, delicious foods and treats, and danced into the evening. This relaxed and fun day with an intimate group of guests was exactly what Kaitlin and Gabe had been dreaming of for their fall wedding day.

My favorite part of the day was being announced, husband and wife. It felt like such a weight lifted off my shoulder, like anything else that happened that day didn’t matter!
